A year shaped by a Global Pandemic, it’s hard for many of us to find nice words to talk about 2021 (or 2020). As the end of the year-we-cannot-wait-to-leave-behind approaches, we pause to reflect on the lessons learned, remember the best and worst, and we start contemplating a new year energized by hope.
As we enter the last month of the year, we wanted to do a very personal end-of-year review and get honest, so we collected personal accounts from some of our team members that shared with us how 2021 changed them, their highs and lows, or simply how they manage to survive. Can you relate?
“2021 has been THE YEAR for me. Neu came into my life and I have met a new side of myself, one that I love much more than all the others. I want to cultivate that side even further in 2022: be a mother, learn from my mistakes and have fun along the way with the best travelling companion, Xavi. In these strange times, it's difficult to find one's way around with everything that has happened, that's why I decide to live floating, to enjoy the daily whirlwind and not think too much about things. I want to believe in the superpowers of everyone around me and feed off that energy, I want to create and be brave.” Paola, CEO.
“The things that kept me sane this year were my friends, binge-watching Seinfeld and going on long walks. 2021 has been a year of ups and downs and spending a lot of time by myself, as in, literally alone, so that was challenging at times. But that also lead to a lot of moments of introspection and growth, and realizing that, as cliché as it sounds, when you are at peace with yourself, not that much can shake you.” Veronica, Copywriter.
“In March 2021 I probably received the best news of my life: my wife was two weeks pregnant. We had been waiting for this moment for quite some time… And it happened amid a Global Pandemic, which has meant a lot to deal with. 2021 has been a year of focusing on the wellbeing of my wife and our baby, learning a lot about how we want to raise our daughter (yes, we are first-time parents), balancing priorities in life and enjoying these 9 wonderful months of pregnancy. I think 2022 is going to be a great year, a year of challenges for sure.” Javier, Design Director.
“This year I learnt to come back to myself and understood the importance of having one's self in order to be able to be with others. I enjoyed new people who became my family in a new country, with a new lifestyle. Connected to the now, with no great expectations other than to be well, calm and happy. I realised what I am capable of when I set my mind to it, that I am an empowered and strong woman and I can achieve my goals.
I also understood that family is always there, despite the distance or the great ocean in between. That love exists, that it can be enjoyed and shared. And that we should always, always be grateful for everything. Belén, Graphic Designer.
“In 2020 I learned about the importance of happiness in the everyday. So in 2021 I have been particularly looking forward to the small joys of everyday life: a yoga practice at 6am, the therapeutic moment of making myself a porridge, a deep conversation, long walks in solitude enjoying my inner dialogues.... As well as spending quality family time being present, enjoying professional successes and exploring the Lagom lifestyle.” Elena Briones, Key Account Manager.
